Your First 90 Days in NPS: An Account-Servicing Checklist Through Abhipra

Opening an NPS account is the start of the work, not the end of it. Your PRAN is the account identifier that follows you across employment or location changes, so a few early checks can help keep your records usable when you need a service request later.

An NPS subscriber reviews account records with a financial-services adviser on a secure video call from a home office.

Start with the records that support every future request

Keep your PRAN in a secure place and make sure the mobile number and email recorded against it are current. NPS communications are sent to the registered contact details, so an outdated phone number or email can make it harder to receive alerts and complete authentication.

When you log in to the CRA service, review the fields that matter most for future servicing: contact details, bank account details, address and nomination. Do not share your login credentials or one-time passwords with anyone. If a change is needed, use the documented CRA route or ask Abhipra to help you understand the appropriate service-request path.

Build a small account-control routine

The following workflow is a practical review routine, not an official deadline or processing timeline.

Four-stage NPS account servicing workflow from account opening to a quarterly review, covering PRAN, contact details, bank and address fields, nomination, contributions, statements and early service queries.

The horizontal axis shows the suggested review window after onboarding: account opening, first week, first month and then a quarterly review. Each box contains one or two actions that fit the stage. The useful inference is simple: verifying contact, bank, nomination and contribution records early can reduce avoidable friction if you later need a correction, a grievance follow-up or an exit-related request.

At account opening

  • Save the PRAN without storing it in an unsecured shared note or chat.
  • Confirm that the mobile number and email used during onboarding are accessible to you.
  • Keep the acknowledgement or confirmation received for the account-opening process.

During the first week

  • Log in through the official CRA channel and review the information visible in your account.
  • Check the bank account and address fields before you need to initiate a request.
  • Retain acknowledgement or reference numbers for any service request you submit.

During the first month

  • Review your nomination details with the people and contact information you intend to record. A change in family circumstances is a reason to revisit it.
  • If you have made a contribution, match the amount and date with your CRA record before assuming the transaction is complete.
  • Keep confirmations, statement extracts and service-request references in one secure folder.

Make a quarterly review a habit

  • Recheck mobile number, email and address after a job change, relocation or change of bank details.
  • Read the transaction statement and alerts rather than relying only on a debit message from your bank.
  • Raise a query promptly when a record, contribution or request status appears inconsistent.

When should you ask for help?

Some changes can be handled through the CRA login or the NPS mobile app. Other requests may need a prescribed form, supporting document or authorisation, depending on the subscriber category and the requested change. Avoid guessing which route applies. Abhipra can help you identify the next service step and the documents to keep ready.

A few guardrails

  • NPS investments are market-linked. Account servicing does not change the need to review suitability, risk and liquidity before contributing or changing investment choices.
  • A service request can have different steps depending on your sector, CRA record and the nature of the change. Check the current official instructions before submitting documents.
  • Do not use a delayed correction as a substitute for reviewing records at important life events such as a change in job, address, bank account or nominee.
