Q.1. What is SPEED-e?
Ans. SPEED-e is a facility developed by NSDL which is a common
infrastructure to enable the DPs to provide Internet based services
to their clients. The investors subscribing to this facility can
give instructions for delivery of securities to their DPs through
the SPEED-e website viz; www.speed-e.nsdl.com thus eliminating
the need to submit delivery instruction forms (paper) to their
DPs. Investors can submit instruction forms from their own PC
with Internet connectivity or through cyber café.
Q.2. How does SPEED-e work?
Ans. The demat account-holder can submit delivery instructions
electronically using SPEED-e after the DP authorises the demat
account-holder to operate its account. The DP downloads these
delivery instructions in batches from SPEED-e and effects the
same by importing into the NSDL DP-Module (DPM). The DP regularly
uploads the response from the DPM to SPEED-e so as to update the
status of the delivery instructions given by the demat account-holders.
The SPEED-e users can monitor the status of such delivery instructions
to ensure that their instructions have been executed.
Q.3. How can I, as a Demat Account-holder
/ Clearing Member benefit from SPEED-e?
A. The benefit offered by SPEED-e to a demat account holder
/ Clearing Member is the convenience of conducting demat account
transactions under the comfort of an Internet connection from
anywhere at anytime eliminating paperwork. Time and efforts for
obtaining and submitting delivery instruction forms to your DP
and submitting them to the DP everytime you sell securities are
saved.
Q.4. How do I enroll/register for SPEED-e
service?
Ans. NSDL demat account-holder (including a Clearing Member) desirous
of operating its account through the Internet, on SPEED-e, first
registers itself by submitting a registration request form. It
is necessary that the DP [with whom the said account are held]
is registered with NSDL for offering SPEED-e services.
Q.5. Can I access SPEED-e from a public
terminal / cybercafe?
Ans. It is advisable to work from your own computer. Still, SPEED-e
can be accessed from a public terminal/cybercafe as long as the
computer meets the minimum configuration. The Users must take
simple precautions like closing the browser after use, ensure
that your key strokes are not captured by a software which can
be replayed after you leave and deleting the temporary internet
files. Smart Card Users will have to install the smart card reader
in the computer before using SPEED-e. After using, you must remove
the software and drivers that were installed for the smart card.

Q.6. What to do if I forget my User-ID?
Ans. If you have forgotten your user-id, you cannot operate SPEED-e.
If you are accessing SPEED-e using a password, you will have to
re-register to use SPEED-e once again. You need to approach your
DP to get your present User-Id revoked by quoting your Client
Id before attempting to re-register. If you are a smart card based
user, please contact your Depository Participant for your User-Id.
Q.7. Once I subscribe to SPEED-e, will that mean that my DP will
stop accepting paper based instructions?
Ans. Availing of SPEED-e services is co-existent with the existing
services provided by the DP and hence, does not seek to replace
the existing services. SPEED-e seeks to add convenience to an
end-user by leveraging the convenience and reach of the internet.
An account holder subscribing to SPEED-e, therefore, CAN STILL
CONTINUE issuing paper instructions to his DP. But, if an instruction
is given through SPEED-e, there is no need to once again submit
paper instruction.
Q.8. Can a Power of Attorney (PoA) holder operate my demat account
through SPEED-e?
A. Yes, a Power of Attorney can operate your demat account. But,
for subscribing to SPEED-e service the signatures of the original
account holders are must. You may not find the need for a POA
to operate your account as you can now operate your account from
anywhere in the world.
Q.9. What is the difference between Smart-card based access to
SPEED-e and password based access to SPEED-e?
Ans. Smart card access inherently is a superior access service
to SPEED-e as compared to password access. The following are the
additional benefits of having a smart card
> Higher security. Access based on "What you have - smart
card" and "what you know - PIN" provides a digital
signature to identify YOU. This authenticates that only the person
possessing the smart card and knows the PIN has submitted the
instruction.
> Transfer Securities to any account. No restriction of transfer
only to pre-notified accounts.
> A single smart card can be used to access all your demat
accounts with a Depository Participant.
Q.10. I have several Demat Accounts. Can I operate all those accounts?
Can I use the same smart card for access?
Ans. You can operate all your demat accounts with a Depository
Participant using a single smart card. If you have password based
access, you will have to register separately for each account.
Q.11. How does one operate jointly held
Depository Accounts through SPEED-e?
Ans. You have to nominate one individual as a Power-of-Attorney
who would operate the joint account.
Q.12. How do I discontinue my registration
to use SPEED-e service?
Ans. You can choose to discontinue from using the service. Password
Users can simply select the "Discontinue" option in
SPEED-e menu, while Smart-Card Users need to submit a form for
discontinuation of service to the DP.
